One week ago I made a pledge to shed some pounds and like so many other people out there, we know the reasons why we should eat healthier, exercise more, and become who we want to be, but really…life gets in the way. In my situation, because my mom is ill and trying her best to recover in the hospital from the removal of a brain tumor, a mild stroke, and a fall from her bed at the hospital , I’m not as active as I wanted to be. My time is now spent running out of the house after the kids are off to school to see my mom and make sure she is being cared for properly. Because her fall was so severe, she will take longer to recover (an extra six weeks) as she fractured a bone in her left leg (the leg which he had hip surgery on two years ago) and got the biggest goose egg I ever seen over her eye which is taking forever to heal.
I am reading a great book called “Change One” Lose Weight Simply, Safely, and Forever by John Hastings. John is educating me on healthy eating habits and introducing me to great new and easy recipes which taste great and take very little time to prepare. With my hectic schedule, I need all the help I can get to prepare delicious easy but healthy meals. Another great read is “Wheat Belly” by Tom Weiner. What he has taught me is the importance of eliminating wheat from my diet. I truly believe I am allergic to wheat since I have a lot of all the symptoms that point in that direction therefore I’ve decided that I’m going to take the next few weeks to conquer the elimination or at least minimizing the intake of wheat and see how that impacts my health and weight. This along with buying more organic foods and experimenting with the preparation of new leafy vegetables including Kale, Collard, Red Swiss Chard, and Bok Choy will hopefully lead to a slimmer me and more handle on serving my family healthier tasty meals.
Once that food part is second nature, I will follow a routine of exercising everyday for at least one hour. Many of the programs I joined, but had to cut short included Yoga and Pilates at Stratosphere in Vaughan and Boot Camp at Fit Body in Vaughan. They were all amazing and made me feel balanced and relaxed once completed so it’s imperative that I get back on that wagon.
I’ve joined the 30 Day Challenge at Stratosphere and the Biggest Loser at RE/MAX so I’m determined to finish what I started…losing weight.
